A practical checklist for preparing a clear steel-material enquiry and avoiding unnecessary confusion over dimensions, quantities and delivery.
Start with the correct profile and size.
“Steel bar” or “steel pipe” alone may not be enough to identify a product. A good enquiry names the material type and its relevant dimensions—for example diameter and length for reinforcing bar, or outside dimensions and wall thickness for a hollow section.
Type of material · Diameter or section dimensions · Thickness · Length · Surface finish
State quantities with units.
A request for “100 steel” is ambiguous. State whether you need pieces, lengths, bundles, sheets or weight. If your project has a bill of quantities, use the same item descriptions and units where appropriate.
Item count · Unit of measure · Length per item · Total estimated requirement
Use the project-approved requirements.
Strength grades, product standards and dimensions are not interchangeable. For engineered structural work, follow the requirements of the responsible engineer or approved drawings instead of relying on appearance or a general product description.
This website does not certify that a product meets a particular grade or engineering standard. Ask for verified product information before making a purchasing decision.
Think ahead about where materials must go.
Provide a clear destination and information about vehicle access, offloading needs and your preferred timeframe. Delivery service, costs, timing and any unloading support must be confirmed with the business.
